On February 11, 2019, Colporteurs from across Jamaica Union Conference converged at the Maranatha SDA Church in Mandeville for a special meeting with Publishing Director of the General Conference, Pastor Almir M. Marroni.
Pastor Marroni, who was in Jamaica as part of the 200-member delegation from the World Church, participated in the 12th Global Leadership Summit at the Iberostar Hotel in Montego Bay during the period February 4-8, 2019.
The team was also part of the historic Jamaica Union Conference’s Mission Project 2019 – ‘Wholistic Health for Personal and National Transformation’, LTM Convention held on February 9, 2019 at the Montego Bay Convention Center.
In his message to the over 100 colporteurs gathered at the meeting, Marroni said, “There is a process that God takes us through. When God chooses somebody as a missionary, when God calls somebody, he sends them through a process, where many times they don’t understand… Every day the Literature Evangelist leaves his or her home with a briefcase full of books to go to some house or business place to present God’s message, they are sent by the Lord. You are not an accident you are a purpose driven soul.”
In his presentation Pastor Marroni shared with the Colporteurs three important steps to success:
(1) Conscientious execution of daily duties (2) Content Spirit (3) Sincere interest in the welfare of others. He further stated that “If you are facing a time in your life and you think that you are sold, be patient, pray, because God certainly have a plan for you.”
Pastor Dudley Hosin, Publishing Ministries Director, JAMU, was delighted in having Pastor Marroni share with the Colporteurs and used the opportunity to introduce him to the top colporteurs across the island who were present namely Sis. Valerie Bell from Central Jamaica Conference, Sis. Angella Brown from West Jamaica Conference and Sis. Venus Wallen from the East Jamaica Conference.
Sharing also in the day’s programme where representatives of the Inter-American Division Publishing Association (IADPA) bookstore. Pastor Otoniel Perlo, assistant editor of the IADPA Bookstore, shared with the colporteurs some important techniques in presenting the books to prospective customers.
Sister Clara Spengler, manager of the IADPA Bookstore presented two special book packages to the Colporteurs at a reduced cost in addition to providing a special incentive for those who sold seventy-five copies of the given books. IADPA local bookstore manager Mrs. Debbie McLean was also in attendance and shared in the programme.
It was a moment of shared joy for Sis Thelma Johnson of West Jamaica Conference, the oldest Credential Colporteur still canvasing, to personally meet the General Conference Publishing Ministries Director. Sister Johnson at 86 years of age is still standing strong and going about the master’s business. To God be the Glory. It was indeed a purpose driven day, as the Colporteurs were motivated to continue their drive in taking the printed pages into all the world.
