The East Jamaica Conference is deeply saddened by the passing of Masterguide Oneil Hardie, a member of the New Haven SDA Church. MG Hardie passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, December 11, 2020, just ahead of the annual Youth Congressoree weekend.
At the conference level, Hardie served in the East Jamaica Conference Youth Ministries Department as Administrative Assistant to the Principal of the Training School and as Assistant Master Guide Coordinator and Presenter/Teacher for many of the courses.
At the New Haven SDA Church, He served as an officer and instructor in the Pleiades Adventurer and Pathfinder Club as well as an active member of the New Haven Communication Team. Hardie was also known for travelling to other clubs and conferences to aid in the training of Pathfinders. He’s described as a quiet soul, reliable, one that always made himself available.
Past Youth Director, Pastor Ray Davis spoke sincerely about Hardie’s service in ministry.
"I was privileged to have Oniel as a part of my team while I served as Youth Director. He functioned as one of my personal consultants, my right-hand man and my outdoor expert. He served tirelessly and faithfully. Youth Ministry has lost a giant of a youth leader, one who never complained about a task or hid from any duty,” said Davis.
Pastor Brian Shaw, current Youth Director of EJC also expressed his sadness at the news of his death but also gave hope.
“It is with sadness that I express my condolences to Oneil's family. He was a true soldier of the cross. I find hope in the resurrection of those who die in the Lord,” said Shaw.
EJC joins in expressing condolences to the family of Oneil Hardie, his church family and those across the constituency.
