Fathers: God’s Gift to Society

When God made man, he gave him the obligation of being head of the family. This is man’s God given role. The man (father) is expected to love his wife, protect and provide for his family, inculcate discipline and build the family moral and spiritual esteem. The bible, in Ephesians 6: 4, urges “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord”. This is a clear instruction given to fathers by the Lord. Sunday, June 17, 2018, as the world acknowledge and applaud fathers for their sterling contribution to ‘Nation Building’ so did the Andrews Memorial SDA Church.
The Education Department of the Andrews Memorial SDA Church, held its very first “Father’s Day” Brunch on Sunday June 17, 2018. The event was hosted at the Sky Lounge, of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC). It was a multifaceted one; allowing the Education Department to honor the fathers and also to expand their ‘scholarship programme to more than one recipient at the church.
The event got off to a late start, not because of the promoters of the event, but that the patrons were pre-occupied with the World Cup games. However, when the event got started it was quite a treat. It started with the “Master of Ceremonies” Sister Susan Long-Gordon, who was an appetizing treat for the event. She charged the fathers with a quote from Steve Farrar, Standing Tall, where he spoke of the godly father being a spiritual submarine that lurks below the surface of the activities of his child’s life. Steve Farrar, urges fathers to put on the full armor of God and go to warfare on his knees for his children, as on his knees the father is a force to reckon with. The quote states that it’s only in prayer, a parent can affect a situation and give their children twenty-four hours protection.
The patrons were pleasantly surprised by the many awards that were given to fathers of various categories and responders to the quiz on fathers in the bible.
As a premiere event, one can safely say the “Father’s Day Brunch” was a success; as over two hundred individuals were catered for. Already patrons are anticipating the second edition, which most definitely will be bigger and better, with God’s help.
