The Administration of the Seventh-day Day Adventist Church in East Jamaica Conference mourns the passing of Pastor Meremoth Epaphras Weir, former president and executive secretary of East Jamaica Conference and executive secretary of West Indies Union, who passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025 leaving behind his beloved wife Beatrice, children Mercedes Weir, Marilyn Weir-Smythe (Wyatt Smythe), and Marchelle Rachel. He was 95 years old.
In his tribute, Pastor Meric Dale Walker, president of East Jamaica Conference, reflected on the work and legacy of Meremoth Weir, who dedicated his life to serving God and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
"He was a thinker. One who processed meticulously toward doing the right thing and was a faithful servant of God who served his church with distinction", Walker said. "He was intelectually deep and a man of strong faith in the Lord. He will be sadly missed."
Weir served as executive secretary in East Jamaica Conference between 1979 - 1980 and president during the period 1980 - 1985. He enjoyed the love and respect of the church in East Jamaica Conference and the wider church organizational where he served. His love for the Lord was unquestionable and his contribution to the growth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica is significant.
“We commend his wife and family to the care and comfort of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and look forward to see our brother again when the Lord returns," said Pastor Walker.
The president, fellow administrators and directors of the Conference express condolences to the extended Seventh-day Adventist family both locally and internationally.
