President| Melvin Francis

Beloved members of the East Jamaica Conference,

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you as we celebrate Emancipation and Jamaica's 64th Anniversary of Independence under the national theme, "United in Celebrating Resilience."

We pause to honour the courage of those who broke the chains of oppression and to give thanks to God, whose mighty hand has preserved our nation through every valley and every victory. Yet while we celebrate the freedom won in history, we must never forget the greater freedom secured at Calvary and soon to be realised at Christ's glorious return!

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).

Free from physical chains, free from enslaving cycles, and most of all, free to live transformed lives resolutely built on Christ the Solid Rock.

As we unite on Sabbath, August 1, 2026, for the Day of Prayer for the Nation, under the theme "Transforming Jamaica; Healing Homes, Uniting Communities," I invite every congregation to become an altar of hope and every believer to become an ambassador of reconciliation. National transformation begins with surrendered hearts. Healed homes build united communities, and united communities become a testimony to a nation longing for God's peace.

Let our prayer become our practice:

Where hatred divides, let love abide.Where darkness remains, let Christ's light reign.
Where homes are torn, let hope be reborn.
Where faith grows dim, let every heart cling to Him.

The Scriptures remind us, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12), and again, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray... then will I hear from heaven... and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).

As Jamaicans, we celebrate resilience; as Christians, we celebrate redemption. As citizens, we cherish independence; as pilgrims, we eagerly await the day when every earthly flag will give way to the everlasting Kingdom of God.

May this season inspire us to live faithfully, serve selflessly, pray fervently, and witness boldly until the trumpet sounds and our Lord returns. Then every chain will be broken forever, every tear will be wiped away, and every nation, tribe, people, and tongue will unite in the eternal anthem of the redeemed.

Until that glorious morning, may God bless our families, strengthen our churches, and continue to bless Jamaica, land we love.

Happy Emancipation! Happy 64th Independence! Let us remain United in Celebrating Resilience, while looking with unwavering hope toward the perfect and everlasting freedom found only in Jesus Christ.

Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Yours in the Master's service,

Pastor Melvin H. Francis
